3D Life’s presentation entitled “3D Printing- Modeling Heart and Aorta” at the scientific conference of Athens Medical Center presented its innovative cardiovascular 3D Models as a valuable aid to physicians. During the presentation, delivered by 3D Life’s Chief Engineer Mr. Leonardo Bilalis, several characteristic 3D-printed models of the heart and aortas of real patients with both congenital and structural heart disease were presented together with doctor’s testimonials how the surgeon has been benefited by 3D model in particular cases.
The potential application of 3D printed models of individual patient’s pathologic anatomic conditions (not only in cardiovascular disease but also in other medical specialties) were discussed: These include pre-surgical planning and preparation for personalized surgery, surgical simulation, permitting more accurate, faster, and more effective surgical or catheter interventional procedures. This technology not only benefits the patients who receive better and safer health care, with reduced complications, but also, at the same time, leads to cost cutting for hospitals. Furthermore, the ability of allowing surgeons, interventional cardiologists and other physicians to study and practice on accurate replicas of the hearts of real represents a true revolution in medical education.
As mentioned during the presentation,“3D Printing is a new disruptive technology with the ability to transform HealthCare in Greece and around the world. 3D Printing has been extremely helpful in high risk cases and is expected, in the very near future, to become an indispensable tool for specialists in cardiovascular surgery (and other fields) who are committed to provide the best possible care for their patients”
